Statistics like GPA and class rank are important, of course, but they only tell part of the story. Please find below letters of recommendation given to me by teachers and coaches through the years to offer a different perspective.

"Kate Van Tassel is a natural born leader. Kate is one of the reasons why Wilbur Cross High School girls’ soccer is competitive. For the past two seasons playing for the Wilbur Cross, she has helped her teammates improve every day in practice and during games. She has earned the respect from her teammates, opponents, and fellow coaches the past two years. She is a vocal leader and helps all her teammates, regardless of skill level, improve. She was named captain during her sophomore season and will be captain again next season. She played sweeper and center midfield during the past season, being defended by two or three players at all times. She has earned All-SCC First Team Honors during her sophomore season and was nominated for SCC Player of the Year. She was named SCC Housatonic Division Honorable Mention as a freshman.

Besides for soccer, Kate is a well-rounded student-athlete and is a great ambassador for Wilbur Cross High School. Kate is the lead in the high school musical, has taken on a rigorous course load including three AP classes as a sophomore. I will never forget going to a night game this past season were Kate was on the bus studying for her APUSH test prior to the game.  She is a determined student-athlete who is humble but wants to be the best in everything is does.

I am proud to have Kate Van Tassel on my team; she is the very definition of a student-athlete."
